KINGSGATE FOSSICKING TRIP
Auzex Resources have agreed to offer this trip again in 2010 - we appreciate them making this site available to Minerama.

TRIP H will be run on Saturday 13th March, 2010.

The trip has been offered for the past 3 years and has been extremely well received by those who have participated.  Thanks are due to Auzex for allowing visitors again in 2009.  Note that any future access depends on whether Auzex Resources can safely allow visitors on to this site.  For safety reasons, visitors must not enter this site at any time without explicit permission from Auzex Resources.

This field trip represents a rare opportunity to visit an active mining area, courtesy of the company, Auzex Resources Ltd.  Kingsgate is a world famous area for molybdenum and bismuth minerals and is especially known for the large quartz crystals found in the ore bodies.

After many years of easy access, the locality was closed to fossickers in 2006 and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future while active mining and mineral exploration continues.

At this stage, there is no limit on numbers attending this trip but this is subject to review by Auzex.  All those attending must understand that this is an active mining area and that access is only available to those sites that the company’s representatives wishes to make available.

There will be limited opportunity to collect specimens and you must agree to remain in the designated areas.

The trips will depart from the rear of the Services Club at 9:30 am, returning at approximately 1:00pm.  Travel will be in convoy via the Red Range road under the leadership of the guide, the last 10 km of which are unsurfaced but suitable for all vehicles.

You must have a field trip ticket which are available from 8:30am at the rear of the RSL or by pre-order ($11 for adults, $4 for children).

Bring: wrapping paper and bag for carrying specimens and wear sturdy footwear. Quartz shards can be dangerously sharp.
