EMMAVILLE FOSSICKING TRIP

TRIP B - Silver Mine Field trip - Friday 12th March 2010
TRIP K - Museum tour - Sunday 14th March 2010

Be at the car park at the rear of the Services Club ready to leave by 9:00am. There will be no Trip Leader to follow to Emmaville, so you may leave Glen Innes at any time before 9:00am. Travel time to Emmaville is about 30 minutes. Take the normal route via the Inverell road and then turn right at the sign about 1 km from the New England Highway. Your guide will meet you outside the Emmaville Mining Museum ready to depart at 9:30am.

MUSEUM TOUR - This trip is ideal for those interested in gems and old mining history but who may not necessarily want to spend the whole day digging.   You do NOT need a field trip ticket for this tour - simply pay $5 at the door of the museum.

Museum entry is included in the ticket price and guides will be available to discuss the many fascinating exhibits on display.  Finally, the tour visits some of the interesting old mining areas/relics close by giving you a real insight into the mineral history of Emmaville.  Why not finish the outing with counter lunch - Emmaville has 2 country-style pubs to choose from.

SILVER MINE TRIP - Confident drivers in good 2WD vehicles should be OK but we suggest that a 4WD is a more appropriate vehicle for this location.  Drivers of 4WD vehicles may be able to assist with some car-pooling for those who would like to go on this trip.

You must have a ticket ($11 adults, $4 children) which may be purchased at the rear of the Services Club any morning from Thursday at 8:30 AM or by pre-order. Tickets cannot be purchased from the guide at Emmaville.

This trip will take you to the Silver Mine area where a variety of minerals may be found (eg. fluorite, beryl, candle crystals of quartz, galena, chlorite, arsenopyrite, cassiterite etc) depending on your luck.

Bring: Hammer for breaking specimens, wrapping paper and carry bag and perhaps a pick and shovel for digging in the dumps; sun block cream, insect repellent, food and drink and sturdy footwear.
