7 OAKS - FRAZER CREEK FOSSICKING TRIP
TRIP J:   Saturday 13th March 2010

This site is run by one of the commercial operators in the district but the owners have offered a half-price deal for Minerama visitors featuring fossicking along the renowned Frazer Creek.

Be at the car park at the rear of the Services Club ready to depart with your guide in convoy at 9:00am.  You must have a ticket ($11 adults, $4 children) which will be available on the morning before departure from 8:00am.

If you do not have a Minerama Field Trip ticket, you will not be eligible for the special offer price.  For visits to the site at other times, please contact the owners for rates and further information.

Travel time to 7 Oaks is approximately 60 minutes (about 60 km from Glen Innes).  The route follows the Strathbogie (Wellingrove) road for 15 km and then left to the village of Wellingrove (another 6 km).  Turn into the Kings Plains Road and travel along this road for about 32 km until Rickeys Lane.  Your trip leader will take you to 7 Oaks where you will be met by the owner of the property.

Conventional vehicles should be able to negotiate the route.  You will be able to fossick along Frazer Creek – there will also be an opportunity to inspect the mine cut and plant on the way to the fossicking area.

You can expect to find sapphire, zircon and some black spinel.

Bring: shovel (preferably a long handled one), sieves, bucket, tweezers, container for your finds (preferably plastic), crowbar, yabby pump, sun block cream, insect repellent, food and drink and sturdy footwear.

Visit the 7 Oaks website for more information.
